This month we shine a spotlight on a record store situated in the West of Melbourne.

A 15 minute train ride away from Melbourne city, brings you to the suburb of Footscray where you will find Counterweight Vinyl and Espresso. Nestled in a laneway just off the Nicholson Street Mall, Counterweight has become, in it’s short 2 years, the best place in the West to dig for records. There is a wide range of styles to look through; from Rock, Pop, Hip Hop to Drum N Bass and Techno. Counterweight also serves the best coffee; a special blend made specially for the store. Snackwise – there are some crazy, delicious marshmallow cookies. You have to visit: Counterweight records.

The record bunkers, always filled to the brim with choice cuts and prices range from the usual $2 fodder to the rare Japanese pressings that could range up to $100. There are ample listening stations and if you ask nicely, the staff may play it on the store system. A new selection of spray paint have been recently added for the creative types. As well, a collection of rare Skate decks.

This store has become a “must visit” store in Footscray. Always bustling with people waiting for coffee at the window counter, and beat diggers inside going through the wax. The “infamous” Counterweight block parties happen once a month. During the summer months the block parties are jamming! Together with Baby Snakes (a new bar opened upstairs of Counterweight) party people fill the laneway enjoying the sun and the music vibes coming from the DJs spinning at Counterweight.

Goto their Facebook page to get a heads up on their next Block party and as well, new wax dropping into the store weekly. VIsit their Discogs page for online wax ordering.
